Beginning in 1849, charters were kept separately by the Recorder of Deeds in the docket General Manufacturing Book #1. Charters also known as “articles of incorporation” were formally recorded beginning in 1874 with Pennsylvania legislation to provide for the regulation and incorporation of certain corporations.
