[ARCHIVED] Facebook Post Leads to Denver Man Sentenced to Prison for Child Pornography

A Denver man was jailed Tuesday for having child pornography, which police discovered after a private citizen’s posting on Facebook.

Michael A. Kovall, 24, was sentenced Tuesday in Lancaster County Court to 1 to 2 years in prison, to be followed by 6 years of probation.

Kovall, who had been out on bail since being charged last year, was taken to Lancaster County Prison after a sentencing hearing before Judge Howard Knisely.

East Cocalco Township police charged Kovall after receiving a tip about a Facebook post. The post showed Kovall soliciting a chat with who he believed to be an underage girl. A private citizen posted the video, and police were notified.

Police contacted Kovall who admitted to watching child pornography. Police uncovered about a dozen images from Kovall’s laptop computer.

Assistant District Attorney Janie Swinehart told the judge Tuesday some of the images contained children of a very young age.

Kovall pleaded guilty in February to felony counts of possessing child pornography.

Judge Knisely ordered a sentence of one year, minus one day, to two years, minus one day, to be served in Lancaster County Prison.

East Cocalico Township police Detective Keith Neff filed charges.
