Lancaster city police, in consultation with the Lancaster County District Attorney’s office, continue to investigate the Sept. 7 fatal stabbing at Beaver and Conestoga streets.
Hiram Calderon, 20, died as a result of the stabbing.
Here is an update on the status of the case:
Investigators met with the Calderon family on Thursday intending to discuss progress and findings in the investigation. The meeting involved the Calderon family, police, the assigned prosecutor, and a victim advocate.
Police and the prosecutor offered to show the family video surveillance of the incident, as well as elaborate on witness statements and other evidence. The family declined to watch the video, ended the meeting, and expressed wishes to obtain an attorney.
Police and the district attorney’s office intend on meeting with the family’s attorney as soon as we hear from him or her because we believe the family and/or their attorney should see and hear everything before the public. At that point, all findings will be made public, along with additional information pertinent to the case and the final decision.
It is clear from the investigation that the incident was not random in nature and police are confident there is no danger to the public.
In fact, the evidence reveals that Mr. Calderon sought out and continued a confrontation with the person who stabbed him, but further details will be withheld until we hear from counsel.
The investigation is not closed. Anyone with information is asked to contact Lancaster city police at 717-735-3300 or Lancaster City-County CrimeStoppers at 1-800-322-1913.
