[ARCHIVED] Judge Orders State Prison for Lancaster Teen Robber who Cited Fame as Bad Influence

Temar Boggs

A Lancaster teenager will serve up to 10 years in prison for robbing a city store last year.

Temar Boggs, 18, racked the slide on a gun while demanding money from a clerk inside El Coqui Market, 611 North Plum St., on Dec. 17, 2015.

On Friday, Lancaster County Judge Howard Knisely ordered Boggs serve 40 months to 10 years in state prison.

In court, Boggs and his attorney said he was drawn into the wrong crowd of friends after gaining notoriety from assisting police in a 2013 kidnapping in Lancaster Township.

First Assistant District Attorney Christopher P. Larsen countered that, saying Boggs has always had a strong support system of relatives, but still chose to rob the store.

Specifically, Larsen pointed out, Boggs took another step during the robbery by racking the slide on the gun while threatening the clerk.

Boggs and an accomplice fled with $200.

Boggs’ defense asked for a mitigated sentence; Judge Knisely ordered a standard-range sentence.

Boggs and his accomplice, 16-year-old Yamel Yelverton, were identified and charged after police released surveillance images of the robbery.

Police determined Yelverton served as a look-out while Boggs went inside the store with the gun.

Boggs pleaded guilty in June. Yelverton's case is pending.

Lancaster city police Officer Adam Dommel filed charges.
