A former nursing aid at a Denver senior-care facility is charged with stealing a patient’s credit card and making over $1,500 in purchases.
East Cocalico Township police Detective Keith Neff charged 28-year-old Rachael Leanne Raffe with felony access device fraud.
Raffe, of Bernville, Berks County, turned herself in Tuesday and was arraigned by District Judge Nancy Hamill. Raffe is free on $5,000 unsecured bail.
Raffe was a nursing aid at Denver Health and Rehabilitation Services, 400 East Lancaster Ave., when she stole the Capitol One credit card in February from a female patient.
The victim then discovered $1,518 worth of purchases were made between Feb. 17 and 28 at numerous local stores and restaurants, including Speedway, Sunoco, McDonalds, Wal-Mart, and Weis Markets.
Surveillance video from the purchases revealed the person using the card to be Raffe.
Raffe worked at the center as an aid from December 2015 to Feb. 21.
In a police interview last month, Raffe admitted to taking the card and using it for purchases. She paid the full restitution owed at her Tuesday arraignment.
Raffe is presumed innocent.
