A Manheim Township police officer was recently recognized for performing more intoxicated-driver evaluations than any other municipal cop in Pennsylvania.
Officer Bradley Redinger also was named Lancaster County’s DUI Top Gun for the past year, during the Pennsylvania DUI Association’s annual banquet last month.
Also at the banquet, Lancaster County Assistant District Attorney Ande Gonzalez received the first Impaired Driving Prosecution Award.
Gonzalez, intoxicated driving specialist in District Attorney Craig Stedman’s office, said combatting DUI is a “team effort.”
“We are fortunate in Lancaster County,” Gonzalez said, “to have dedicated women and men in law enforcement who understand the importance of removing impaired drivers from our roadways.”
Lancaster County police filed more than 1,600 DUI charges in 2014; about 1,700 were filed the previous year.
While alcohol-involved DUIs have decreased, “drugged driving” arrests have been climbing here and across the state. Lancaster County police filed charges, in 2014, in more than 600 DUI cases that involved drugs.
