A 69-year-old Narvon man will serve at least a year in prison for sexual abuse of two local girls.
However, he won’t be prosecuted for a self-admitted long history of sexual abuse of children because those incidents happened too long ago.
David Gene Waite disclosed the recent abuse – abusing two pre-teens in 2011 - last year to a therapist, who then contacted state police.
On Tuesday in Lancaster County Court, Judge Donald Totaro ordered a 1-to-2-year prison sentence on counts of indecent assault of a child.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Sarno said at sentencing that Waite also admitted to sex abuse of five other children, since the 1970s.
A psychologist who deemed Waite a “sexually violent predator” opined that Waite has demonstrated pedophilic behavior for 44 years. Sarno submitted that doctor’s report as evidence in the case. The doctor, Robert Stein, called Waite’s condition incurable.
Waite could only be prosecuted for the local indecent assault crimes because the statute of limitations had expired regarding the other abuse which Waite admitted. (That alleged abuse happened outside of Pennsylvania.)
Following parole, Waite will serve five years of probation and must register under Megan’s Law, Judge Totaro ordered.
