An appeals court has denied a Lancaster sex offender’s request for relief from a jail sentence that imprisons him until he’s at least 94.
Last year, a Lancaster County Judge jailed 74-year-old Jerry Allen Reed for 21 to 50 years regarding sex abuse of a teenager between 2007 and 2010.
On appeal, Reed argued the jury that convicted him shouldn’t have heard evidence of prior sex abuse.
Specifically, Assistant District Attorney Karen Mansfield introduced trial evidence that Reed raped a female in the 1980s – and the female became pregnant and had a child.
That abuse was never reported to police or prosecuted. The evidence was permitted at trial.
The Pennsylvania Superior Court, while denying Reed’s appeal Wednesday, agreed the evidence was appropriate for trial.
Lancaster County Judge David Ashworth ordered the sentence in September 2014.
