VERDICT: Lancaster Man Guilty of Sexual Abuse at City Apartment; Sentencing Upcoming

TeddyBernard

A Lancaster man was recently convicted of all counts regarding sexual abuse of a pre-teen girl several years ago at a city apartment.

Teddy Bernard, 50, will be sentenced in January following a background investigation.

A local jury deliberated for several hours over two days before deciding the case on the afternoon of Oct. 31.

Bernard was found guilty of rape of a child, six other felonies and a misdemeanor.

Assistant District Attorney Karen Mansfield presented evidence during the three-day trial that Bernard abused the girl in 2010 (when the victim was 8) at an apartment in the 700 block of Union Street.

ADA Mansfield told jurors that the victim had absolutely no motive to create a false allegation; Bernard had not been in her life for years.

Bernard was an acquaintance of the girl’s mother at the time of the abuse.

Lancaster city police started an investigation late last year upon receiving information from Children & Youth Services.

City police Detective Ryan Hockley filed charges.

Lancaster County Donald Totaro presided over the trial and will determine sentence.

At the verdict, Judge Totaro raised Bernard’s bail to $1 million.
