A Manheim man was convicted at trial this week of pointing a gun at a motorist when he believed the victim changed lanes too closely behind him last year in Manheim Township.
Ronald Shirley Jr., 30, was found guilty of three misdemeanors following a nonjury trial Tuesday afternoon in Lancaster County Court.
Lancaster County President Judge Dennis Reinaker sentenced Shirley to six months of house arrest and two years of probation after returning guilty verdicts to simple assault, reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick presented evidence that the incident happened Dec. 18, 2018, at the interchange of Routes 283 and 72.
Shirley was in the exit lane for Route 72 and sped up as another motorist attempted to merge into the lane. Eventually, that motorist (the victim) merged behind Shirley’s vehicle – he believed too closely.
Shirley drew a pistol and pointed it at the victim through a rear vehicle window, according to testimony presented by ADA Haverstick.
The victim testified that Shirley wasn’t letting her merge into the exit lane, in heavy traffic.
She testified that she swerved when Shirley pointed the gun, and she pulled over and called 911.
After the incident, Shirley admitted to Manheim Township police to pointing the loaded firearm.
Officer Michael Tropp filed charges and testified.
