[ARCHIVED] Man, 71, Jailed at Least a Decade for Years of Sexual Abuse of Girl

A Manheim Township man will serve at least a decade in prison for years of sexual abuse of a pre-teenage girl.

Thomas Irwin, 71, recently pleaded guilty in Lancaster County Court to rape of a child, aggravated indecent assault and several other felonies.

Lancaster County President Judge Dennis Reinaker sentenced Irwin to 10 to 20 years in prison, in accordance with a plea agreement.

Irwin spoke in court, but did not apologize to the victim, according to Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick, lead prosecutor.

Irwin pleaded guilty to 10 charges: nine felonies, including rape of a child, and misdemeanor corruption of a minor. He pleaded no contest to a second count of rape.

Irwin abused the girl between 2013 and October 2018 at a home on Ashley Court.

The abuse was disclosed to Manheim Township police in March, and they opened an investigation.

In court, Irwin spoke for several minutes, but did not mention the crimes or indicate he was remorseful, according to ADA Haverstick.

Manheim Township police Detective Sarah Goss filed charges.
