A Denver man will serve at least six years in prison for a pair of weapons and drug-related convictions – one involving an arrest after he posted bail.
James C. Simmons, 49, pleaded guilty in January to several felonies and misdemeanors regarding arrests last year.
In January 2018, the Lancaster County Drug Task Force searched Simmons’ Corey Drive home and found methamphetamine, heroin, a sawed-off Mossberg shotgun, and a collapsible baton.
Simmons posted bail and was found with heroin and methamphetamine during a March 25, 2018, traffic stop in Denver.
On Thursday, Lancaster County Judge David Ashworth sentenced Simmons to 6 to 12 years in prison.
Assistant District Attorney Deborah Greathouse said in court that Simmons has had one documented job – between 2015 and 2018 – so it is not clear how he supported his children over the years.
Greathouse also stressed that Simmons resumed dealing drugs while out on bail.
Lancaster County Drug Task Force and East Cocalico Township police filed charges.
