A man jailed for cursing at a Lancaster County judge on the eve of trial is facing another sentence for being convicted at the trial of burglary.
The jury returned its guilty verdict against Darrell Fields on Aug. 14 after hearing two days of testimony about the June 20, 2015, burglary in the 500 block of North Lime Street in Lancaster city.
Fields, 36, will be sentenced on the burglary after a background check is completed, according to Assistant District Attorney Christine L. Wilson, who won the conviction.
Lancaster County Judge Margaret Miller already ordered a 3-month prison sentence for contempt regarding Fields’ in-court outburst on Aug. 10, when his case was before the judge for a status update.
Fields directed multiple expletives at the judge as the denial of Fields’ motion for a bail change was discussed.
Regarding the burglary, Fields was charged after DNA left at the scene matched his via the CODIS database.
Fields targeted a home in the 500 block of North Lime Street when the residents were gone on a day trip. Fields climbed a rear fire escape and entered by breaking a window, according to testimony presented by Wilson.
The DNA was extracted from Fields’ blood which was on a piece of glass.
Fields stole about $2,000 in electronics and other items, including iPods, a camera, and an XBox video game system.
Lancaster city police Detective Toby Hickey filed charges.
