The Lancaster County Sheriffs Office has advised residents to protect themselves from potential scam phone calls that have been reported.
A person falsely identifying themselves as Chief Deputy Chris Riggs has been contacting Lancaster County residents inform them that they have missed either a court date, jury duty, or a call to be a witness. The imposter then provides a false docket number or citation number and instructs victims that they should make a payment up front which will be refunded from the Sheriffs office.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office will never call residents and demand money over the phone for any reason.
Residents are advised that should they receive a call, to contact the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office at 717-299-8200.
