The Fugitive Apprehension Unit (FAU) is tasked with the service of all types of bench warrants to include Court of Common Pleas Bench Warrants for Probation and Parole Violations, District Attorney Failure to Appear Bench Warrants, Prothonotary Bench Warrants, Domestic Relations Bench Warrants, and Magisterial District Court Warrants in addition to State Probation and Parole Warrants and Federal Warrants. Deputies assigned to the FAU receive specialized training to assist them in the service of these warrants, many of which are for serious offenses. This Unit serves hundreds of bench warrants annually.
The Sheriff's Office has established a great working relationship with our local, state and federal law enforcement partners when it come to the service of warrants. 10 Deputy Sheriff's in this Unit are sworn Deputy US Marshals which gives them the unique ability to travel outside of Lancaster County to apprehend fugitives. By working with the United States Marshals Service, in addition to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, United States Department of Agriculture, the Pennsylvania State and United States Attorney General’s Offices, the Pennsylvania State Police, and several local law enforcement agencies, the Office has achieved this ability.
