Jury Deliberates 15 Minutes to Convict Robber of Manheim Township Bank

MartellByrd

A Lancaster man was convicted Thursday in county court of robbing a Manheim Township bank last year.

A local jury deliberated about 15 minutes Thursday morning before finding 24-year-old Martell T. Byrd guilty of robbery and making terroristic threats.

Assistant District Attorney Mark Fetterman, who won the conviction, presented evidence that Byrd robbed Integrity Back, 2055 Fruitville Pike, on Aug. 16, 2016.

Lancaster County Judge James Cullen, who presided over the trial, will order sentence on Sept. 8.

During the two-day trial, Fetterman called a bank clerk to testify about the hold-up.

The robber, later identified as Byrd, came into the bank wearing sunglasses and handed the clerk a note, according to testimony. Part of the note read, “This is a robbery… I will shoot!!! Don't be a hero.”

The clerk activated a silent alarm. Byrd fled without any money.

Manheim Township police Detective Nicholas Fritz filed charges.
