Intestate records also known as “Letters of Administration” were filed when an individual died without a will. Intestate records provide a timeframe of death, names of administrator(s), and also their signatures. Administrators were required to conduct a “true and perfect inventory of all and singular the goods, chattels and credits of the said deceased…” within one month and an account within one year each filed in the Register’s office. Intestate records prior to 1753 are kept at Lancaster’s Historical Society.
